Mistakes when choosing colors for the interior

The color scheme plays a big role in shaping the image of the interior. Depending on the colors used, you can give the interior a particular mood, atmosphere, meaning. Choosing the right colors can reveal more than the artful decor of a room. So it only seems that the color scheme has value solely in terms of what colors the wearer likes.

Color scheme in the interior

Particularly interesting is the fact that with the help of properly selected colors, you can increase or decrease the room, hide the flaws in the layout, and a lot more. But you can only achieve your goal if you use and combine the right colors. And to cope with this task is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. Interior designers have been studying color for a long time and you won’t be able to make up for everything in a couple of articles. But still, for general education, such articles can be very useful.

Only white

It is believed that white color expands the space, making it more spacious, fresh, light. And sometimes people get hung up on this color, trying to make the whole room completely white, using both a white background and white accents. But with this approach, you make a lifeless snowy desert out of the room, which is completely removed from the cozy interior. Professional designers generally approach white with caution.

Confusion in white flowers

There are just so many shades of white. Here you have ivory, and milky, and creamy, and much more. So, when you are advised to use white for walls, you should not use pure white - it is very cold and makes a room for surgical operations out of an ordinary living room. Use shades - they can give much more to your interior.

Different shades of the same color

Do not make the interior exclusively in one color - this will kill the depth of the room. If you really like a particular color, then use its shades to give the room that depth that is usually achieved by combining several colors.

Color ratio

The colors used in the interior of the room must have the right ratio. And this does not change depending on the room - even in the hallway this rule is true. Also, you can not use the same number of colors in the interior, as they will turn into a hodgepodge. There is a main color - it takes up most of it, and there are a couple of additional ones that divide the rest between them. This is the only way to get color accents, and not randomly mixed colors.

One contrasting thing

A single contrasting spot in the interior will look ridiculous and out of place. So in the interior of any room, whether it be a living room or a bedroom, the color accent must be supported by a couple more decorative elements of similar color. And if the contrasting object is a large object, a sofa, for example, then it is better to add elements of the main color to it - pillows, in this case.

Neglect the color of the floor

Do not forget that although the floor seems completely invisible, a lot depends on its color. In fact, it occupies quite an impressive area. So choose the floor to match your overall interior.

Warm and cold shades

Each color has its own cold and warm shades. Even red can be cold and blue can be warm. A bathroom in turquoise, for example, will look much warmer than a similar bathroom in steel color. And green is generally fickle and it’s not easy to keep track of it. So do not look at the colors one-sidedly - they may show unexpected facets for you.

A mixture of warm and cold colors

In general, it is possible to mix cold and dark shades, but this should be done by designers who understand in what proportions they can adequately coexist in the interior. And because of these complexities, it's best not to mix them up at all. And use either cold or warm shades in the interior of the room.

Pure color

Pure colors are very expressive. But there is a downside - their excessive obsession. They are appropriate in the children’s room - children love them and tolerate them normally, but even here they should be used carefully. Well, in more "adult" rooms it is better to use complex shades.

Highlights

Bright colors are great, no one argues. But don't overdo it. Too large areas of bright color will tire you and oversaturate the interior with color. So big objects should be pastel or muted. But for small interior accents, bright colors are just what you need.

Fear of the dark

Many people are very afraid of dark colors, as there are many stereotypes. For example, that dark reduces space, that it is a very gloomy color, that it causes nervousness. But all this applies equally to other colors. The point is to use them correctly. And when used correctly, the dark color will give the room depth, create an intimate atmosphere, add coziness. A small bedroom will be incredibly comfortable if you choose the right dark colors for it.
