Now many are trying with all their might to expand their living space. Naturally, such an opportunity is available to residents of private houses, although this also becomes possible in some multi-storey buildings.
But before you take such a serious step as a complete re-equipment of the attic, you need to sensibly evaluate your actions and decide whether you really need it and whether you can do everything necessary to make the attic a full-fledged room. The first disadvantage, of course, is the fact that you have to spend quite a lot of money. It will be necessary to redo the roof, strengthen the floor, conduct electricity, make cosmetic repairs, buy furniture for the living room or any other room. All this requires a lot of money, especially if you use high-quality and expensive materials. This really will not be solved at the expense of one or two salaries, the average family will have to thoroughly accumulate money in this way or take a loan.
The second disadvantage is the fact that a lot of time will be spent on it. All the changes that the attic will be subject to are the work of more than one week. At best, it's a month. All this time there will be dust, dirt, noise in the house. Of course, for the sake of a good result, you can be patient, but the question arises - do you really need this room?
The third disadvantage is the inability to do it all yourself. Many skilled owners would be happy to work on the attic themselves in order to save on workers and be sure of the quality of the work performed (and there are enough situations when hired workers did something that had to be redone). The first and most significant plus is the expansion of space and the ability to carry out a full-fledged redistribution of the house. This is especially true for those families who planned one or two children, but it turned out that there would be more of them. From the converted attic (and well insulated, of course) you can move the children’s room of older children, they will only be happy with such an unusual room. Or you can move the living room, rebuilding the "old" room for the needs of a new family member. Also, you can make an office out of this room so that no one interferes with you in the process of work. Or you can make a creative studio so that you do not interfere with others.
The second plus is the free space that you get. Often families do not have some kind of personal corner where they could have a little rest and enjoy peace and quiet without strangers. But the attic once again can give this opportunity.
The third plus is the implementation of interior solutions. Nevertheless, a beautiful, cozy and non-standard room has a positive effect on life satisfaction. So, if possible, why not treat yourself to a new room. Of course, it is better not to have a kitchen or a bathroom there, but just a reading room, for example, made in an interesting style, is quite possible.
