Mistakes when decorating a studio apartment

Some may think that such a fashionable name as "studio apartment" hides an ordinary one-room apartment. But this is not so, and the fundamental difference lies precisely in the layout of such an apartment. The usual "one-room" has a corridor, a kitchen, a combined bathroom, and a bedroom-living room.

And the studio apartment combines all the premises at once, except for the bathroom. Those. the bedroom, living room, kitchen, work area are in the same room, while you still need to find a place for a wardrobe. It may seem that it is impossible to fit all this into one room. But, firstly, this is a very large room, and secondly, compact furniture and its ergonomic arrangement help a lot here. Moreover, such apartments, for the most part, are much more convenient for one person, and even two people live in such an apartment relatively comfortably. But all this is valid only if you have designed the interior of such an apartment correctly. Due to its size, the studio apartment is very sensitive to improperly designed interiors. So even small mistakes can be fatal. Therefore, it is better for an experienced interior designer to create an interior for such an apartment. But if you want to take a chance and try to arrange such an apartment yourself, then we will tell you about the most obvious underground stones.

Wrong zoning

Zoning in a studio apartment is what allows such apartments to exist in general. If you incorrectly zone a room that has several functions at once, then this is practically the collapse of the entire interior. For example, you should not combine the dining room and living room into one zone - this is irrational. It is much more correct to combine the kitchen-dining room. This will create more opportunities for saving space and will look more organic. Likewise, the living room should not be combined with the kitchen, it is much more rational to combine the living room with the work area.

Lack of zoning

Even worse, when there are no clearly defined zones. On the one hand, there is a smooth transition from one part to another, but on the other hand, this is more of a communal option, which looks more like forced measures than a functional and habitable space. Zoning does not necessarily take up space - you can separate the bedroom area with a light curtain from the main room, you can highlight the kitchen area with a different color and other finishing materials. There are many options for easy zoning and their use will make the room more comfortable.

Bad light

Poor lighting negatively affects the interior of any apartment in general, no matter how big or small. But often people make the same type of mistake - they decide that since this is one room, then one light source is enough. And this is very, very wrong. Ideally, each zone should have its own light source. The main one is a ceiling chandelier, in the working area - a table lamp, in the sleeping area - a wall lamp. In the kitchen, you can illuminate the workspace with a diode tape attached to an apron or to the bottom of hanging cabinets hanging above the kitchen tables. Otherwise, the room will look smaller than it is and the very atmosphere in it will be more oppressed.

Bed position

Sometimes the bed is located right at the front door. And this is a very strange choice. Usually people tend to hide their bed from prying eyes. And with such an arrangement, it is almost the first thing that catches your eye. In addition, such an arrangement deprives the feeling of privacy that we all need. So most designers agree that the bed should be set on the contrary, as far as possible from the entrance, and preferably at the farthest wall. And bring the kitchen area, wardrobe or living room forward. And ideally, it is desirable to isolate the bed from prying eyes with a curtain or an open bookcase.

Ordinary furniture

Ordinary furniture is appropriate in ordinary apartments, to which the studio apartment does not apply, massive, non-functional furniture will take up extra space and do not bring any additional benefit. The same applies to massive tables, armchairs and chairs, voluminous bookcases, etc. To make the interior of your apartment more in line with the conditions that this apartment dictates, pay better attention to folding models of dining tables and chairs, built-in structures as a wardrobe, sofas with pull-out mattresses.

Height matters

Often studio apartments compensate for their small space with high ceilings. But the apartment owners ignore these high ceilings, although this is still a space that can be used. We are not talking about the second tier in the room now, usually the ceilings are still not so high. But on the other hand, you can easily raise the level of the floor, and organize storage spaces inside such a podium. This will not only allow you to use the space more rationally, but also allow the apartment to look more original.

Poor storage system

For small rooms, an ill-conceived storage system is practically unacceptable. Unless you want to live in an eternal dominance of things and objects that have nowhere to go, and which make your home more sloppy. If this is not your goal, think in advance how your things will be stored. Provide plenty of storage space – floor-to-ceiling built-in wardrobes, extra storage under the bed or sofa, roomy cabinets in the kitchen, tall cabinets in the bathroom. All this will help to find a place for any thing, thanks to which you will live in a neat room.

Window

The right design of windows can play a very important role in how the room will look like in the end. Often, the owners either ignore the window openings, hanging something insignificant there, if only there was. Or vice versa, they decorate them too magnificently and pretentiously, from which the appearance of the room also suffers. And you need a golden mean. A good option are Roman blinds, complemented by simple plain curtains to the floor. Or just curtains - their length allows the room to look more elegant and sophisticated.

Bedroom at the head

Another very important mistake is the sleeping area, which is at the heart of the entire room. Usually it looks in such a way that the bed is the center zone of the room and from it everything is already lined up in the interior. This is wrong, since in a studio apartment the room has other purposes and functions. So such a construction of the interior looks simply ridiculous. Instead, it is better to separate the sleeping area, where everything will rest against the bed, and arrange everything else as a living room.
