Design myths
In any profession there are some myths that are completely untrue, but at the same time they are actively spreading among potential consumers and simply interested people. Often these myths originate from those times when many modern technologies and design solutions have not yet been invented or distributed. But now, taking into account all modern technologies and interior solutions, these myths are banal misconceptions that are far from reality.

There are especially many such myths in the design environment, since many people have very little idea of what a designer does and what his work is in general. This is where the belief comes from that being an interior designer is very easy and does not require any special skills. We are ready to tell you about the most popular misconceptions and myths that you can meet. It will be helpful for you as a consumer to get an idea of how a designer works. Naturally, the article will describe only the most common and relevant myths that have long had no real explanation and exist only because of other people's stories, but are not confirmed in practice.
Seam directions
There is a theory that says that the direction of the seams of the flooring (parquet or laminate) should be strictly from the window. For failure to comply with this rule, swelling of the coating, cracks, distortions is promised - in general, it will be easier to just take it and re-lay it again. But this is a myth that can be refuted simply by thinking logically - what is the actual difference in which direction to lay the coating. So if you have heard such a myth, know that it does not apply to reality. And in any room (in the bedroom, for example) you can lay the floor the way you want.
Seams between tiles
Many argue that the smaller the joints between tiles, the better it is from an aesthetic and practical point of view. As for the practical point of view, there is a rational grain here - the inter-tile putty is destroyed faster than the tile itself, as a result of which the practical characteristics may suffer. But on the other hand, there are already a lot of compounds that strengthen the putty and prevent it from quickly collapsing, including in the bathroom, where the humidity is high. As for the aesthetic point of view, everything is generally removed from reality - seams can be an important part of the decor, plus they are important in such a system as "warm floor".
Skirting boards and platbands
Another common myth is that the trim should be the same color as the door, just like the skirting board with the floor or ceiling. Indeed, some time ago this rule was relevant and used everywhere. However, now it has not been relevant for a long time, since skirting boards and platbands have moved from the category of necessary things to one of the ways to decorate a room. Therefore, they can even be in completely contrasting colors, and this is not a mistake, but rather a highlight of the living room interior, for example.
Wallpaper
And another of the myths is the absolute failure of the wallpaper. Some argue that wallpaper is a relic of the past, and wall panels, paint, liquid wallpaper and other options have long conquered the market, and wallpaper has faded into the background. But this is absolutely not true. Wallpaper is often used in children’s rooms, bedrooms, etc. they are still one of the most economical wall coverings that are available to absolutely everyone.
