Comparison of Western and Eastern Interior Styles
In a previous article, we highlighted the differences between northern and southern interiors. In many ways, the differences were due to weather conditions and living conditions in general. Well, in this article we will look at the differences between Western and Eastern interior styles.

Interestingly, in this case, all the differences are mainly due to different mentality and cultural characteristics, and not climate. And even now, despite globalization, the differences are quite obvious and noticeable. But this has its own charm, as it creates a variety and originality of interiors, and this allows progress in the interior to move and invent something new.
General composition
The western interior composition consists of a fairly laconic base - monochrome walls, a simple floor covering. But expressiveness and brightness are most often added thanks to furniture and decor. Non-standard curtains, original vases, furniture with bright textile upholstery - this is what the Western interior is based on. In addition, “luxury” notes are often added to it. A large and wide window sill in the living room, garlands as one of the sources of lighting - in the rooms they often try to create some kind of languid and slightly bohemian atmosphere. The oriental interior is characterized by simplicity. Monochromatic wall covering, standard floors and ceiling - this is the same for both eastern living quarters and western ones. But furniture, decor and colors are selected according to completely different criteria. First, they often use very natural colors that can be seen in nature. Secondly, all the furniture is very "mundane", low and restrained. It can be made of very beautiful wood, with beautiful carved patterns, which, however, will not catch the eye. The basis of the oriental interior lies in the oriental philosophy - to find beauty in small things.
Colors
The color scheme has strong differences, despite the fact that almost always either white or dark colors are chosen for the base. Western interiors do not hesitate to use unnatural colors, unexpected combinations, but at the same time avoid any bright colors as a basis. Those. all color accents are designated precisely as accents, light hints, interior elements and nothing more. For example, in the kitchen, the main color will never be green, maximum lime. Oriental interior can be divided into two main categories - Chinese and Japanese. In the Japanese direction, everything in the room is done in seasoned, soft colors. The abundance of dark and light shades is amazing, and such truly oriental minimalism cannot but bewitch. If we talk about the Chinese direction, then it is just the opposite. You can often find yellow, red, purple as the main colors, which will undoubtedly make the room very bright, but also slightly overloaded.
Furniture
Furniture in the oriental interior is always distinguished by its “earthiness”. Chairs, tables, beds - any piece of furniture has a rather modest height. However, they cannot be called unreliable, since in their structure they are quite strong and stable. Again, the oriental interior with respect to furniture is divided into two areas already known to us - Japanese and Chinese. Japanese furniture is dominated by natural colors, light wood, lack of carvings and frills, often a mattress is used as a bed in the bedroom, and pillows are used as chairs. The Chinese direction has strong, squat furniture, mostly made of dark wood, dark red is especially popular. The Western interior is generally characterized by a variety of forms of furniture. Low furniture for Western rooms is not so characteristic, however, otherwise, one can observe an amazing variety of shapes and materials. Furniture made of plastic, metal, glass - all this is being actively introduced and used.
Decor
For the oriental interior of the Japanese direction, the decor is almost uncharacteristic; indoors you can see up to about three decorations, which in themselves will be quite concise and restrained, and most likely made of natural materials. The Chinese direction can please with bright and colorful decor - paper lanterns, fans, paintings on fabric and the like are a characteristic feature. Western interiors often use something in between Chinese and Japanese decor. Decorations are bright and beautiful, but not too bright, if the interior style does not require it. In general, both the eastern interior and the western interior are now moving in the same direction - this is minimalism. However, the west is characterized by minimalistic freedom and space, while the eastern interior is looking for more simple elegance and nobility.
